A life well lived is the life worth living. Life is not about
self-satisfaction. True life is a life of influence. Sometimes, living to see
other people satisfied is satisfying in itself. Our happiness lies in the
happiness of others. When we engage in services to make other people
comfortable, we create value and indirectly create the wealth that people run
after. Money is a reward for value created.
Now, let’s see this story I read: A group of people attended a
seminar. Suddenly, the speaker stopped and started giving each one a balloon.
Each was asked to write his name on his balloon with a marker pen. Afterwards, the
speaker gathered all the balloons and placed them together in a room. The delegates
were then let into the room at once and asked to locate the balloon, which had
their names written on it within five minutes
Pandemonium ensued. Everyone began searching frantically,
pushing, jostling, and colliding with one another in absolute chaos. At the end
of the five minutes, no one could locate his own balloon. Thereafter, the
speaker then asked each one to randomly pick a balloon and give it to the
person whose name was written on it. Within a few minutes, everyone had his or
her own balloon. The speaker then continued, “Exactly! This is happening in our
lives. Everyone is frantically looking for happiness all around, not knowing
where it is. Our happiness lies in the happiness of other people. Give them
their happiness and you will get your own happiness”.
The moral of this story: Selfish ends lead to nowhere. When in
the position to serve, we should think not just about our well-being, but also
about other people around us. Most times, we find fulfillment and joy when we
help others meet their needs. The change we seek begins from us. In one of the subsequent
post, we hope to see the true-life story of a man who lives a life of sacrifice
and indirectly reaps the benefits of his selfless service. It pays! … See you
at the top.
